We generally use a VPN for office networks or to establish an increasingly secure connection with the internet. While setting up a VPN connection is a breeze, there can also be problems associated with it. Many users experience an error while connecting to a VPN network (which had worked earlier) saying, \u201cA connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solution 1 : Using Device Manager<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1:<\/strong> Press the Windows key + X<\/strong> together on your keyboard and select Device Manager<\/strong> from the context menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2:<\/strong> In the Device Manager<\/strong> window, scroll down and expand Network adapters<\/strong>. Now, right-click on WAN Miniport (SSTP)<\/strong> and select Uninstall device<\/strong> from the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3:<\/strong> Repeat the same process as shown in Step 2<\/strong> to Uninstall device<\/strong> for the all the Miniports<\/strong> listed below one by one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • WAN Miniport (PPTP)<\/li>
  • WAN Miniport (PPPOE)<\/li>
  • WAN Miniport (Network Monitor)<\/li>
  • WAN Miniport (L2TP)<\/li>
  • WAN Miniport (IPv6)<\/li>
  • WAN Miniport (IP)<\/li>
  • WAN Miniport (IKEv2)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Step 4:<\/strong> Now, click on the Action<\/strong> tab at the top of the window and select Scan for hardware changes<\/strong> from the context menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This will re-install all the WAN Miniports again as it was earlier. So, basically, it installs them freshly and now your VPN should work back again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Solution 2 : Disable Proxy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Press Windows key + R<\/strong> to open run command box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Write inetcpl.cpl<\/strong> in it and click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Click on\u00a0Connections<\/strong>\u00a0Tab from the top tab list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    4. Now, click on LAN Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    5. Make sure that Use a Proxy server for your LAN<\/strong> is unchecked<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
